New Examinations and Testing Module to be Released

A new Examination and Testing module with improved statistical analysis and graphical outputs, is due for release in September. This follows feedback from a number of users, especially those in higher education who required the option to undertake further analysis on the reliability and performance of questions as well as improved presentation of results. Both graphical and numerical analysis (including individual marks, percentages, degree of difficulty and question performance, reliability and spread) can be generated by the system with structured queries, utilising both And/Or arguments, available for a more detailed breakdown of information. A further advantage is the ability to publish the results on the Web as required, so that rather than the system administrator having to send the details to individual lecturers or exam co-ordinators the results can be accessed on the Web using security passwords etc.

Also updated is the QuestionBank facility, which allows users to print separate question papers for use in conjunction with the examination module. This automatically stores the correct answer or weighting, as appropriate, as well as information relating to question performance etc.

As with all modes of data capture within the core Print & Scan system, a variety of question types can be stored and undertaken due to its flexible design features. These include True/False, Yes/No, Multiple Choice (1 from A,B,C or D), 1 from up to ten responses, Extended Matching, marking of short written answers, multiple responses to a single question, e.g. Select from a list of drugs the correct drug and/or drugs to administer to a patient with a known condition etc. If using our Image system this can be extended further to include answer ordering, whereby students can enter the right order sequence to the question asked.

The questions may be individually or randomly selected for an exam/assessment by the lecturer or administrator. This approach is derived from our Web based assessment system, WebEx, which has a new authoring tool that uses the basic QuestionBank platform to allow Lecturers to create and select questions for examinations or testing within their own field.
